“Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make them learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within them that light which is called intelligence.” Dr Maria Montessorri
Our Approach

The following  topics are available within the school, with each individual child free to choose their own activities based upon those that have been previously presented and according to their individual needs and development.

Practical Life

These are simple activities that as adults we perform automatically within our daily routine.  They aim to bridge the gap between the home and the school environment by helping the child to learn to care for themselves and their environment.  At the same time they increase the child’s independence, self-esteem and confidence.

Sensorial

These are exercises that encourage the development of all the five senses whilst at the same time they provide a foundation for speech, reading, writing and mathematics.

Cultural

Here the child is introduced to the subjects of biology, geography, history and science.  The aim being to form a bridge between the child’s immediate environment and the wider world and to develop understanding, respect and compassion for the world we live in.

Lauguage

A unique method is used which combines Phonics 44 with specially designed materials that will encourage the child’s natural development of reading and writing. With this in mind, to eliminate any confusion for the child, we would appreciate it if parents would use the individual sounds of the letters with their children) rather than the names of the letters.

Mathematics

These are manipulative materials which due to their in built control of error, encourage the child to learn by understanding rather than memorising.

Art

This area is continuously available to the children and is supplied with a wide range of materials.  As well as providing opportunities for exploration and discovery, the child also develops creativity, fine motor skills and a sense of identity.

Music and Movement

Apart from involving songs and nursery rhymes that provide a foundation for language and mathematics; the children also have the opportunity to explore a wide range of instruments, music, dance and movement. Every Thursday morning the music man introduces the children to all aspects of music and instruments including the violin and guitar.

French

Children who attend on a Friday morning have the opportunity to learn French through songs, games, craft and dance.
